In its 12th year, the Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) winner’s presentation for Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film 2025 took place at a reception at Warner Bros De Lane Lea, with DUNE: PART TWO (Warner Bros) receiving the coveted award.
Gareth John AMPS and Ron Bartlett were present to receive their prestigious polished bronze AMPS trophies from AMPS Chair Andrew Wilson, in the company of AMPS members including Award Group Leader and three-time Academy Award nominee Graham Hartstone. Tom Harrison AMPS, Martin Kwok, Richard King AMPS, Doug Hemphill were unable to attend but they will be sent their awards.
Upon accepting the award Ron Barlett said: “We couldn’t be more pleased because it is from sound professionals. To be honoured by them means a lot, it is from people we know and work with. It is a great honour.”
During the reception, Andy Nelson also was awarded Honorary Membership of AMPS, recognising his career-long excellence as one of the most highly regarded re-recording Mixers. His credits include Les Misérables, Elvis, La La Land, The Batman, West Side Story, Lincoln, Moulin Rouge!, Saving Private Ryan; over the course of his career he has been awarded with two Academy Awards and five BAFTA Awards, and is nominated this year for Wicked at BAFTA and the Oscars.
In their annual awards AMPS recognise multiple facets of the Sound industry, recognising outstanding contributions from sound professionals who bring cinematic stories to life through the power of sound. The awards honour key roles including Production Sound Mixer, Supervising Dialogue/ADR Editor, Supervising Sound Editor or Sound Designer, and Re-recording Mixer. Production Sound Mixers can nominate a Key 1st Assistant Sound for exceptional contributions, ensuring all critical team members are acknowledged.
Now in its 12th year, the AMPS awards programme across the year honours the creativity and dedication of professionals across five categories: FEATURE FILM, TELEVISION DRAMA, FACTUAL FILM, PRODUCTION and POST-PRODUCTION AUDIO PRODUCTS.
The AMPS Awards are a key part of the awards season calendar, with past winners frequently going on to achieve BAFTA and Oscar success. THE ZONE OF INTEREST, winner of the 2024 AMPS Feature Film Sound award, continued the strong record of AMPS winners, meaning that over the past 11 years, AMPS Feature Film Sound recipients have gone on to win the BAFTA on 10 occasions and the Academy Award 7 times.
