AMPS is launching an important new film and television industry survey to address the ongoing skills shortage in the arena of Post Production Sound.
How the idea first materialised:
It has become apparent that the pool of professionally trained new Post Sound talent is dwindling and urgent action needs to be taken. As work has increased in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic lockdowns, it has proven difficult to find suitable assistants in Post Sound in both HETV and film. It has also become clear that unlike in Production, there has been very little financial support for employers to hire new talent in trainee/assistant roles. As Post Sound work has moved from multi-room facilities to independent home studios, opportunities for training and professional contact has become even more limited.
What is the overall objective of the survey?
AMPS is launching a survey to demonstrate the issues identified above and use that data to inspire industry bodies, content creators and government funding agencies to invest in training structures for Post Sound.
Allocating budget for a Post Sound trainee on every production is key to solving the problem.
What are the hopes for the outcome of the survey?
The hope is that the AMPS survey will be positively received, providing enough reliable and genuinely useful data, to form the basis of a new funding strategy to remedy the issue of lack of training, diversity and entry-level opportunities in Post Sound.
The survey is intended to reach anyone who has had experience of working, or trying to work, in the Post Production Sound sector.
If this applies to you, please take a few minutes to complete the survey, and forward on to as many people who you may feel could help create realistic overview of the current situation."
