As a result of the ballot among the AMPS Voting Membership, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is declared the winner of the 6th Annual AMPS Award; ‘Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film’.
Bohemian Rhapsody follows the life of singer Freddie Mercury from the time he joined Queen up to and including the famous Live Aid concert in 1985. In the film, Queen’s performance is faithfully and accurately portrayed visually and by the super impressive soundtrack.
The work of the winning team of highly talented sound professionals supports the illusion that has lead many to remark “I could believe I was actually watching Freddie and Queen!”. The transitions between Rami Malik’s spoken dialogue and Freddie’s singing vocals are seamless. The music balance and the crowds in the concert have been described as electrifying! A truly remarkable piece of Sound Recording, Sound Editing and Final mixing in the totally immersive Dolby Atmos format.
This year's AMPS Film Sound Award Nominations fielded strong contenders: A Quiet Place, A Star is Born, First Man and Roma. The worthy winners can be proud to have triumphed over such impressive competition.
On its release BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY received less than praiseworthy critical reviews, but the cinema going public proved them wrong. This impressive film with its realistic sound is enjoying phenomenal worldwide box office success. Look out for second planned release that will include a full length version of Queen at Live Aid.
The winners will each receive the prestigious bronze trophy. Nominees will receive Nomination Certificates, and AMPS Certificates of Merit will be conferred on members of the Bohemian Rhapsody sound teams who made creative contributions.
Trophy presentations to be arranged at a time and venue that suits our winners.
AMPS is proud to celebrate the creativity of sound professionals, and to reinforce the importance of excellent sound in all audio visual media.
